Getting into stores

Workout shorts hanging on a rack

Before the shorts arrived in October, I decided on a whim to reach out to some local stores to see if they were interested in buying the shorts as well. I reached out via email and heard back right away from each person I contacted and they placed thousands of orders immediately. Just kidding. I heard back from exactly no one.

Not to be deterred, I decided to go out that Saturday and reach out to stores in person. I had 1 sample pair of shorts with me, no hand outs, no business cards. Just me, wearing a pair of shorts and holding a pair of shorts and walking in to stores. Despite feeling crazy, several people took me seriously (perhaps I should question their sanity too) and I told my first wholesale order that same day. Shout out to Currie at CORE Yoga for being my first wholesale order and believing in me and even coaching me in the moment. Did I try to charge her sales tax because I didn’t know any better? Yep. Did she still agree to work with me? Yes, thankfully!

I’ll never forget the feeling of selling my first wholesale order. To have the validation of a professional, who put her store’s money on the line to buy my shorts when I didn’t even have a clue what I was doing was humbling and exciting. These local business owners have been our biggest supporters and cheerleaders and they are the reason why, no matter how big PHNX gets, I will always support local stores. PHNX would be an entirely different business if not for the support of Currie at CORE Yoga, Dane at RunIn, and Mandy at Todd and Moore. Y’all are the real deal.
